• SEMPRA is the first herbicide launched in India by Dhanuka Agritech Ltd. It effectively targets Cyperus rotundus, offering selective, systemic post-emergence control with a WDG formulation in crops like Sugarcane and Maize. SEMPRA acts systemically, moving through both Xylem and Phloem. By inhibiting the formation of essential amino acids like Valine, Isoleucine, and Leucine crucial for Cyperus metabolism, it induces yellowing of leaves and darkening of nuts, ultimately eliminating the weed within 14-30 days.SEMPRA, classified within the sulfonylurea group of herbicides, targets acetolactate synthase (ALS), the initial enzyme in the biosynthesis of essential branched-chain amino acids such as Valine, Leucine, and Isoleucine. By inhibiting ALS, SEMPRA starves plants like Cyperus rotundus of these amino acids, leading to their eventual death. In crops belonging to the grass family such as maize and sugarcane, the herbicide does not affect them significantly due to their robust mixed function oxidases (MFO), which metabolize SEMPRA into harmless acidic forms.
