Description

Soil Preparation

For the sowing of Paddy clayey or loamy soil with a pH value of 6.5-7.0 is ideal.

Organic matter and good water retention capacity are beneficial for a good crop yield.

Climate

It require warm and humid climate.

Optimal Temperature - 20°C to 35°C

Annual Rainfall: 175-300 cm

Sowing Time

Sow the nursery from mid May to the first week of June to ensure the nursery is ready by the monsoon.

Seed Rate

Direct Sowing: 6.5-8 kg seeds per acre.

Nursery Preparation for One Acre: 8-10 kg seeds

Seed Treatment

Fungal Diseases: Treat per kg seeds with 2 grams Thiram 75 WP or 2.5 grams Carbendazim 50 WP before sowing.

Bacterial Diseases: Mix 1 gram Streptocycline in 10 liters of water and treat seeds from the solution.

Nursery

Area: For one acre area prepare a nursery in 300-400 square meters.

Fertilizer: For 10 square meters, use 50-60 kg well-decomposed manure, 220 grams Urea, and 300 grams Single super phosphate.

Transplanting

Selection: Choose seedlings of 18-22 days (short duration varieties) or 25-30 days (medium duration varieties).

Spacing:

Direct Sowing: 20 x 5 cm

Transplanting: 20 x 15 cm

Seedling Depth: 2 to 3 cm

Fertilizer Management

Apply fertilizers on the basis of soil test report.

Urea: 130 kg per acre

Single Super Phosphate: 150 kg per acre

Muriate of Potash: 40 kg per acre

Water Management

Maintain 5-6 cm water level in the field. Drain water 15 days before harvesting.

Weed Management

Between 0-3 Days of transplanting

Pendimethalin 30 EC: 1000-1200 ml or Pyrazosulfuron Ethyl 10 WP: 60 grams or Pretilachlor 50 EC: 1200 ml or Oxadiargyl 6 EC: 200 ml

After 20-25 Days of transplanting

Bispyribac Sodium 10 SC: 100 ml or Fenoxaprop-P-Ethyl 9.3 EC: 400 ml

Harvesting

Harvest when the panicles turn golden. Avoid delays to prevent grain shedding.

Yield

Yield varies based on variety, soil quality, and rainfall.

Average Yield: 20-25 quintals per acre.

Pest Management

  1. Stem Borer
    • Symptoms: Larvae damage the stem, causing the central shoot to dry up (dead heart). Affected panicles appear white.
    • Control:  Mix 60 ml Chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC or 20 ml Flubendiamide 39.35 SC in 200 liters water and spray it in one acre.
  2. Hopper
    • Symptoms: Nymphs and adults suck sap from leaves and panicles, causing the plants to turn black and dry ('hopper burn').
    • Control: Mix 120 gm Pymetrozine 50 WG or 80 gm Dinotefuran 20 SG in 200 liters of water for one acre and spray it in one acre.
  3. Stink Bug
    • Symptoms: The pest sucks the milk from the panicles during the milky stage, causing an unpleasant odor from the affected plants.
    • Control: Mix 120 ml Imidacloprid 6 + Lambda Cyhalothrin 4 SL or 40 gm Thiamethoxam in 200 liters of water for one acre and do foliar application.
  4. Leaf Roller
    • Symptoms: Larvae roll leaves longitudinally and scrape the green tissue, causing leaf damage.
    • Control: Mix 20 ml Flubendiamide 39.35 SC or 60 ml Chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC in 200 liters of water for one acre and do foliar application.

Disease Management

  1. Blast
    • Symptoms: Spots on the leaves with brown edges and a gray center . In severe infestation black spots appear on the tillers..
    • Control: Mix 200 ml Azoxystrobin 18.2 + Difenoconazole 11.4 SC or 300 ml Hexaconazole 5 EC in 200 liters of water for one acre and do foliar application.
  2. Brown Spot
    • Symptoms: Dark brown or purple spots on the leaves. Drying of the infected leaves.
    • Control:.Mix 400-600 gm Mancozeb 75 WP or 300 ml Hexaconazole 5 EC  in 200 liters of water for one acre and do foliar application.
  3. Sheath Blight
    • Symptoms: Oval green to brown spots near the water level on leaves. Drying of the leaves and poor pod filling in the infected plant.
    • Control: Mix 400 ml Picoxystrobin 7.05 + propiconazole 11.71 SC  or 200 ml Tebuconazole 25.9 EC in 200 liters of water per acre.
  4. Smut
    • Symptoms: Grains appear green and yellow in the early stages. Growth of infected plants is stunted.
    • Control: Mix 400 ml Picoxystrobin 7.05 + propiconazole 11.71 SC or 500 gm Copper hydroxide 46 DF  in 200 litres of water for one acre and do foliar application.
