Cultivation Practices
Activity |
Description |
Soil |
Well-drained loamy soil is suitable for kidney bean cultivation. pH: 6-7. Plough the field 2-3 times and mix well-decomposed farm yard manure. |
Climate |
Warm and dry weather. Temperature: 15-25°C. Annual rainfall: 60-150 mm. |
Sowing Time |
Sowing should be done from May to June. |
Seed Rate |
Use 35-40 kg seeds per acre. |
Seed Treatment |
Biological Treatment: Treat 1 kg seed with 5 gm Trichoderma viride or 10 gm Pseudomonas fluorescens. Chemical Treatment: Treat 1 kg seed with 2 gm Thiram 75 WP or 2.5 gm Carbendazim 50 WP. In termite-affected areas, treat 1 kg seed with 4-5 ml Chlorpyrifos 20 EC. Dry the seeds in the shade after treatment. |
Fertilizer Management |
Use fertilizers based on soil test report. Urea: 35 kg per acre Single Super Phosphate: 150 kg per acre Muriate of Potash: 25 kg per acre |
Sowing |
Maintain a distance of 10 cm between plants and 30-40 cm between rows. Sow seeds at a depth of 5 cm. |
Water Management |
Irrigate the kidney bean crop 3-4 times based on soil moisture and local weather conditions. |
Weed Management |
Within 0-3 days of sowing use weedicide. Mix 1 liter Pendimethalin 30 EC or 1-1.2 liters Pendimethalin 30 + Imazethapyr 2 EC mixed in 200 liters of water and spray it in one acre area. |
Harvesting |
Harvest the crop when the pods are fully developed and turn yellow. Do harvesting at early morning or evening hours. Timely harvest the crop as delayed harvesting cause shattering of grains. After harvesting dry the grains in sunlight and do threshing. After threshing collect the grains and store them in a dry place. |
Yield |
Yield varies based on variety, soil quality, and rainfall. The average kidney bean yield is 7-9 quintals per acre. |
